Scotchman Electric, an electrical contractor from Garrettsville, Ohio was in need of some guidance on the new arc flash codes and regulations. Pepco set up a meeting at their shop with our Tool & Safety Purchasing Specialist, Adrian Griffin, to present to them the latest tools and equipment as it relates to NFPA 70 E.
The NFPA 70E: Standard for Electical Safety in the Workplace is a set of requirements specifying safe work practices to protect personnel by reducing exposure to major electrical hazards. Originally developed at OSHA's request, NFPA 70E helps companies and employees avoid workplace injuries and fatalities due to shock, electrocution, arc flash, and arc blast. It also assists in complying with OSHA 1910 Subpart S and OSHA 1926 Subpart K.
Provisions within NFPA 70E encompass safety-related work practices, safety-related maintenance requirements, and safety requirements for special equipment. The Standard includes guidance for making hazard identification and risk assessments, selecting appropriate PPE, establishing an electrically safe work condition, and employee training.
As a result of Adrian Griffin's presentation on the latest safety and equipment standards, Scotchman Electric will be purchasing their safety equipment from Pepco. Pepco looks forward to partnering with Scotchman Electric to help them increase their compliance with all of the latest safety and equipment regulations.
